  1. How do I create a survey?

Click the "manage surveys" link on your dashboard to go to the survey management page.

The main surveys page will show a list of any surveys you have previously created, and, if your current product tier allows you to create additional surveys, a "create new survey" button will show at the bottom of the page. Click this link to open the create survey page.

The "create new survey" button looks like this: Create new survey

Once on the create survey page, complete the listed fields and click "create." If the survey is successfully created, you will be returned to the main surveys page.

  2. What does "allow multiple responses" on the survey create/edit pages mean?

By default surveys accessed via the web interface will set a browser cookie on the visitor's computer that will prevent the visitor from completing the survey again. If the "allow multiple responses" box is checked, this browser cookie will never be set.

  3. How do I add questions to a new survey?

On the main survey page, click the pencil icon to open the edit survey page. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "add a new question" button to open the create question page.

The "add a new question" button looks like this: Add a new question

Once the create question page opens, complete the question text and type fields and click "create."

  4. How do I reorder or delete a survey's questions?

From the survey edit page, click the up/down arrows next to the individual questions to move a question forward or backward. Click the delete survey button to delete the question.

The "delete survey" button looks like this: Delete survey

  5. Can I edit a survey question?

No, survey questions cannot be edited. If you want to change a question text, you must delete the question and create a new one to replace it.

  6. How do I activate a survey so it can accept responses?

On the main survey page, click the "activate survey" button to activate a survey. You will be prompted to confirm the action.

The "activate survey" button looks like this: Activate survey

  7. Why can't I edit a survey's questions or resource group if it has responses?

Editing a survey's questions or its resource group can fundamentally change the survey in such a way that the existing responses can't be logically combined with new responses. As a result you are required to purge old responses first.

  8. How do I delete a survey?

On the main survey page, click the "delete survey" button. You will be prompted for confirmation.

  9. I accidentally deleted a survey/cleared a survey's responses. Can you put it/them back?

Sorry, deletion is final and instaneous. Please be careful about deleting and make sure you've downloaded any responses before you clear them.

  10. How do I view a survey on the web?

If the survey is active, you can click the "view survey" button. If the survey is inactive, you must activate it first.

The "view survey" button looks like this: View survey

  11. What do I use as the web link for my survey?

For a survey without a survey resource group, you may use the same link as is shown by a survey's "view survey" button. This link will always be http://www.cognotix.com/ followed by the survey's survey key.

If the survey is linked to a resource group, the resource-specific links will be the same as the survey's regular view link followed by the survey resource's key. For example, if a survey's view link is http://www.cognotix.com/12345678, its resource group has a memeber named Joe with a resource key of 55555, the Joe-specific survey link would be http://www.cognotix.com/1234567855555.

  12. How do I access a survey via telephone?

Dial the survey response phone number shown on your account details page. When prompted for a survey key, either enter the eight-digit survey key or the eight-digit survey key followed by the five-digit survey resource key and press the "#" key on your telephone.

  13. Can I supply custom response options for a survey question?

Not yet, but we're currently working on allowing up to nine custom multiple choice answers for survey questions. We hope to have this feature live by the end of the year.

  14. Is it possible to tie a survey response to a specific transaction?

This is another feature we have in the works. Eventually we plan to add a new tier that will allow your customers to respond with a specific transaction key so you can tie their responses back to data in your operational systems.

  15. How do custom fields work?

When you add a question to a survey, if you select the "custom choices" type, you will be presented with nine blank text fields. Each field you fill out will be presented to your customer as a custom value in the order they are entered.

  16. I don't know what kind of questions to ask. Can you help me?

While we can't design a complete survey for you, we'd be happy to give you some survey design pointers as to what you should ask and how you should order the questions. Please contact us know via our contact page and we'll be glad to help get you started.
